Flickr is a free online photo sharing website that allows an internet community for fellow shutterbugs to communicate with each other.  It is part of the web 2.0 phenomena, creating a new idea of the web, the way it works and the way it is formed.  Flickr has established itself to be an important tool in the world of photography.

Flickr is arguably the best online photo management and sharing application in the world. Using Flickr, you can:

-upload photos and show them to the world

-post photos from a cameraphone

-Securely and privately share photos with friends and family

-organize all your photos into sets, which are similar to photo albums.

When other members of Flickr view your photos, you can allow people to add comments to your photos, or add notes and tags. You can also create private groups, and set the group so only certain people are allowed to join (perhaps a community with only the members of a wedding party). You can also join a very broad group, such as “cats”.

Any random common thread can bring people together through Flickr.  Bringing people from all over the world together in an online virtual community.
