VoiceThread is a website that allows for collaboration, discussion, and instruction. The voicethread website explains, "A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate slides and leave comments in 5 ways - using voice (with a mic or telephone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Share a VoiceThread with friends, students, and colleagues for them to record comments too." In its simplest, VoiceThread is comparable to a powerpoint presentation except those invited to the thread can comment and discuss the content of each slide, allowing for distance conversations and collaborations.

Unfortunately, VoiceThread is only partially free. By registering at the website, users will be able to compose and save three VoiceThreads at a time. (If you are finished with one of your threads, you can delete it and create a new VoiceThread.) There is also no software to install, and each thread is saved online. As a result, VoiceThreads are accessible anywhere. To increase capability and quantity, VoiceThread charges from $59.95 a year for a professional account to $99 a year for an instructor account that includes one pro account and 50 basic accounts. Universities can contact VoiceThread for a quote for institutional access.
