Expect to have to repeatedly explain what you do to your colleagues. Learn how to tell your story and tell it every chance you get. English Departments, especially large English Studies departments are diverse organizations. Your colleagues, though usually well meaning, can be amazing uninformed about what you do (but if you are hones with yourself, you probably do not know much about what they do as well). Yearly faculty status documents, internal grant proposals and award nominations are all opportunities to educate a group of captive readers about your professional identity: what you do in computers and writing and why you do it.
