Writing narratives and poetry in the English language "gave me voice , . . . ownership of my English language," and afforded "me a deeper understanding of the role of writing in my life," affirmed Entisar Elsherif during a presentation titled "Though the Eyes of a Writer: A Journey of Learning, Discovering, and Transforming." Elsherif elucidated aspects of her journey at the 21st Century Englishes Conference that was hosted by graduate students in the Rhetoric and Writing Program at Bowling Green State University on October 19, 2013. Not only is Elsherif a writer, she is also a graduate student and a teacher. Elsherif is a doctoral candidate in the Composition and TESOL Program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has taught English in Libyan schools and universities since 1989. Her language of nurture is Arabic, and she plans to return to Libya and teach in the English Department at the Faculty of Education at the University of Tripoli. |
