Whatever: (the concept regarding) a photographic image, perhaps a
body or face, that belongs to no single racialized or nationalized
category; the image falls into a space that Agamben refers to as "non-identity"
or an identity useless to the State, terms that seem incompatible.
I am not certain if Agamben believes these two terms are interchangeable.
The Whatever exists as pure singularity or a "whatever singularity,"
a single entity or thing. The concept investigates the betweenness
of two things: the common and proper, the body and image, genus and
species. He refers to this betweenness as "limbo." I would
like to extend this concept to body and machine.
