As new media streaming technologies continue to proliferate and increase in sophistication, they open new practices for compositionists that allow for easier incorporation of multimodal expression in the composition classroom. Using these tools, educators can now bring multiple media and synchronous two-way communications into their pedagogy, connecting the local classroom to both local and global sites. Our article explores the creation of a multimodal web resource for the First-Year Composition program at Iowa State University, looking at some of the implications of the material changes in Internet technology now available for educators to use. Specifically, we address two powerful new media applications, Macromedia's Flash MX and the Flash Communication Server, which allow educators to quickly adopt new media in their courses.

Both the First-Year Composition web site and the our article are Flash movies. If you do not already have the free Flash 6 plug-in, please visit www.macromedia.com to download it.
