Conclusions

This is not a book that addresses issues of technology in the classroom, or indeed specific technologies at all. The Idea of the Digital University is a blend of philosophical and administrative, informed by extended immersion in online higher education. Overall, though this volume is aimed at administrators, it also holds worthwhile insight for faculty. Because it is more business-oriented than more purely philosophical or pedagogical works, some faculty may shy away from this book, but the authors are speaking out of experience of trying to preserve ideals in the face of market realities, and the resulting discussion may well be a helpful way to prepare for productive dialogue between faculty and administrators.
