Okay, umm...of course I don't have the book that I use...that I get the Harvard example from. It's basically talking about how umm..At Harvard was basically the first school where they did a placement essay, and they were horrified that half of their students didn't have perfect grammar, so they instituted a freshman writing course. Umm...and basically it was the first literacy crisis, um...or at least, you know, modern times.
