About This Text

Open Source Software Used to Create This Text

In producing this article, I tried to use open source software when possible. Once an early rough draft of this article was completed using Open Office (an open source word processor), I decided that composing directly in the browser on the web would be a good way to create this web text. Thus, I set up a website using Drupal (an open source content management system) for revising and refining this article. This allowed me to directly edit the text within the WYSIWYG embedded in Drupal. After drafting and copyediting the text, I used HTTrack (an open source website copier) to produce a static HTML copy of the original Drupal site. With only some minor adjustments to the HTML code, that copy is what you are reading today.

Theme Design

The visual design of this web text is a revision of the Drupal Minimalist Theme, a GPL-licensed theme from Danetsoft and developed by Danang Probo Sayekti.

So that I could use Palatino Linotype (body text) and Helvetica (headings) and have similar alternate fonts for browser/OS compatability, I incorporated the TeX Gyre Pagella and TeX Gyre Heros @font-face kits from Font Squirrel. Both of these fonts are available under open content licenses specifically designed for fonts.
