» Anecdotal
evidence » Summary
While not appropriate as the sole tool for assessment, anecdotal
evidence can still function as part of an overall assessment strategy.
Not only does it provide feedback in words and not just numbers,
but its audience is the writing program itself and it comes, frequently,
from the intended audiences of the web site. Thus, anecdotal evidence
has advantages, disadvantages, and value:
Advantages
- Provides written feedback and assessment of the site.
- Is prompted by vists from actual users.
- Can often underscore the success of a site for particular individuals.
Disadvantages
- Cannot be generalized to overall user experience.
- Often received only sporadically.
Value
- While anecdotal is unlikely to ever be statistically significant,
it can function within a larger assessment strategy by providing
occasional and valuable written feedback on a web site's success.
