Artifacts from CIWIC, DMAC, and Writing New Media

For this webtext, we worked to locate and archive artifacts from the iterations of our various TPD experiences, with the goal of exposing moments of TPD across time and offering a material view of the dynamic processes of these experiences. Part of what each of us learned in our own version of the institute was specifically related to the ephemeral nature of technology. In addition, we learned that the critical literacy involved in making pedagogical choices within the context of ever-changing technological affordances is far more important than immersion in any given piece of hardware or software. This page offers an overview of the artifacts from each institute; readers can immerse themselves in the artifacts by following the links to each specific page.

CIWIC Artifacts

Computers in Writing-intensive Classrooms began in 1985 at Michigan Technological University under the leadership of Dr. Cindy Selfe. On the CIWIC Artifacts Archive page, we include links to 10 years' worth of CIWIC websites, the 20th Anniversary of CIWIC announcement from 2005, and, in order to preserve the 2005 CIWIC website that is still live for the time being, we present screenshots of each web page from the 20th Anniversary site.

WNM Artifacts

Writing New Media, led by Anne Wysocki, began as a branch of CIWIC at Michigan Tech in 2001. On the CIWIC-NM Artifacts Archive page, we include the 2005 Writing New Media flyer announcing the seminar-workshop, a series of screenshots from the inactive 2006 Writing New Media website, and projects created by Rik and Les.

DMAC Artifacts

The Digital Media and Composition Institute, founded by Cindy Selfe and Scott DeWitt, began in 2006 at The Ohio State University. On the DMAC Artifacts Archive page, we include a short video by participant Suzanne Blum Malley (whose work is also included in this special issue), screenshots of the (now inactive) website for the 2009 iteration, and materials related to Alanna's attendance such as a letter seeking funding and acceptance materials.
