What does a cow say? He says “MOO.” My wife and I have said this to my kid at least fifty times in the last week. We’re trying to get him to talk. This new medium is proving to be a little difficult for him to operate in. About the best he can do is say “Mmmmmmmm-ah.” That is not quite a MOO but also short of “Mama.”

The reason I’m writing this is because it has occurred to me that it is difficult to position myself in that space before I was able to say “MOO,” or to MOO as we now MOO in our classrooms. Students often have no idea about the second MOO, the second medium, although they are often well-versed in the first. Likewise, while some teachers may be familiar with the word MOO, they might not be experienced in navigating a MOO. I think I need to develop Zen and the art of MOO’ing. To close my eyes, clear my mind, and put myself in that Tao-ist MOO-less state and then consider how the n00bz I’m surrounded by must feel about saying and doing “MOO.”
