Mickey Mouse casting the spell upon the brooms in the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. This image recurs whenever I consider classroom activities, goals, projects taking on a life of their own. With every spell we cast hoping to control the broom, we risk loosing control, spilling buckets of water.

I want to argue that the Sorcerer, in this case, should get angry with the spell...not the apprentice...and certainly not the brooms.

And yet when the teacher is Mickey and the Brooms are the students - who is the Sorcerer?

Perhaps the Sorcerer is the personification of genuine learning.

As the narrative continues, the water keeps spilling.
