Being finished with our course work was such a relief. For two years we were reading and writing as fast as we could, always feeling that we should have been doing more. While teaching as an adjunct instructor, your students, your classrooms are your only tie to a professional sense of yourself. An adjunct consequently can place a lot of energy into planning class and grading papers. In many ways it is our most natural way to feel like part of the larger university. A graduate student, on the other hand, writes for professionals all year long. We go to conferences. We discusses the issue of Professionalization with mentors. Consequently, many graduate students who used to be adjuncts feel like we might have simplified our class preparation in order to keep our heads above graduate school water. Preparing this class was in some ways an expiation of guilt.
