Hosting a camp for 'tweens is not for the faint of heart. Gathering twenty-plus girls on a public university campus brings with it noise, confusion, and fatigue. In our experience, it also guarantees fun, engaged learning, new ways to understand the media around us and to experience ourselves through that media, and new spaces for troubling ideas about women online. What follows is the story of three iterations of a girls' technology camp spanning two coasts and made possible by an underlying commitment to feminist mentorship.

What we offer here is not only theories and frameworks for building and sustaining outreach programs in your local institutions and communities, but also practical advice and document templates for beginning outreach in local contexts that engage specific communities' needs.

In fact, this site itself -- created in Weebly and then archived as a stand-alone site -- serves as an example in both content and mode of how you can engage with your communities by using low-tech, low-to-no-cost website platforms. We provide templates on everything from gathering sponsors to permission slips as well as practical advice on platforms, technologies, and other options that optimize access, increase know-how, and minimize stress related to sponsoring community engagement projects.
