The Field Guide
What you'll find in the following chapters are artifacts used in our community engagement projects that may be helpful to others taking on similar projects invested in technology and gender. Each chapter represents stages in the community outreach and engagement process, though – like writing – the process is much more recursive than this linear outline suggests. We offer practical advice for getting started with a community outreach idea: identifying a community need; planning ways to meet that need; strategies for recruiting others to help; tips for living in the intervention; and finally ways to document and “publish” engagement scholarship. Several chapters contain links to forms we hope might serve as templates for the countless sorts of paperwork needed to plan, implement, and document community engagement work.
We invite readers to download, revise, and use any of the materials listed here. Our wish is to make the local mentorship infrastructure we’ve experienced for the Digital Mirror/Girlhood Remixed projects available in some small way to others in the field.
