Christine entered my class with limited experience with HTML. She quickly developed a working familiarity with the software we used in the class, and was able to produce effective hypertexts within the first few weeks of the term. Like Karin's work, Christine's project on the Beatles demonstrates what a student with little prior web development experience can accomplish in a semester. Christine's hypertext challenges notions of the linear essay while configuring meaning by integrating the visual and the textual.

Christine clearly draws her hypertext design from the content of her academic essay (screenshot 1). One need not read any text to discern that the hypertext has something to do with The Beatles. The prominent header graphic, the four thumbnail images of album covers, and The Beatles lyric sheet background image help to visually configure the hypertext's meaning (Drucker, 2001).
